The last-known company still manufacturing videocassette recorders, the Funai Corporation of Japan, said in a statement Thursday that it would stop making VCRs at the end of this month, mainly because of “difficulty acquiring parts.”

(FYI: Charles P. Ginsburg is credited with the invention of the videocassette recorders in 1951. Ampex sold their first video recorder in 1956 for nearly $50,000)
